In the late 1970s the RF&P acquired a series of former Georgia Railroad open hopper cars of 2,700 cubic foot capacity, which were given the numbers RFP 8281-8300. The cars were largely used in aggregate service between various locations on the railroad. Photographs show that it was not uncommon to find a rake of six to twelve of these cars in local freights north of Doswell, making them a perfect pike-sized proposition for the modeler.
The Society has ordered an exclusive run of Bowser 16 panel 70 ton hoppers painted for RF&P numbers 8289, 8292, 8297, and 8300. This series is limited to 50 models per number.
