Donating to the Society's Archives

The RF&P Railroad Historical Society, Inc. is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) exempt organization and can accept donations of items for the archives, with the donor responsible for estimating their value for tax purposes.

If you have an item or items you wish to donate, please contact [email protected].

The William E. Griffin, Jr. Memorial Archives Fund

The Society formally established the William E. Griffin, Jr. Memorial Archives Fund on April 30, 2016 to honor the memory of the late Bill Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a long-time RF&P employee, a noted railroad author, and he helped to keep the memory of the RF&P alive before the formation of the Society.
Any donations to the Griffin Memorial Archives Fund will be restricted to use for Archives purposes only.

Employee Records
No Official Employment Records
We frequently receive inquiries seeking information about relatives who worked on the RF&P. The RF&P Railroad Historical Society is not the repository of personnel records for the RF&P Railroad. We do not hold official records of employment history.

It is possible, however, that the person you are seeking information about may be associated with some of the items in our archival holdings. Whenever known, employee names, including nicknames, have been added into the archives online catalog.
Searching the online catalog with a Keyword Search on the person's name may point to collection items that are associated with a specific person, such as company newsletters, photographs, or other records.

About the RF&P Historical Society Archives
The RF&P Railroad Historical Society Archives were established by action of the Society at its general membership meeting in May, 2005. Member Russ Dolbear volunteered to be our first Archivist.
At the 2nd Quarter 2016 Meeting, the Society announced its lease of space at 311 Central Road in Fredericksburg. The Archives Center comprises about 600 square feet, and provides storage and processing workspace on one site. Professional archival standards for storage, handling, and cataloging the collection have been introduced. Cataloging the holdings is underway, with an underlying philosophy that the Society's archival holdings should be made available to members.
The establishment and growth of the Archives Center is due in large part to the efforts of several Society members, especially Stanley Short, Dick Eggleston, Morris Pitts, Frank Northrup, and Bill Gellerman.
If you are interested in volunteering with the Archives Committee, please send a note to [email protected].
